Our Story

The DuPont Clinic opened in Washington, DC in 2017 with the goal of changing the way reproductive healthcare is delivered. Since then, the clinic has cared for over 3,000 patients — more than half of whom were seeking abortion care after 24 weeks. DuPont Clinic has been recognized for outstanding patient-centered care and earned a positive reputation in the reproductive health community by providing evidence-based care, conducting research to improve patient outcomes, and teaching residents, fellows, and other doctors how to provide advanced abortion care.

As one of only a handful of abortion clinics in the country specializing in later abortion care, many of DuPont Clinic’s patients come to them because they are unable to be seen elsewhere. DuPont Clinic is committed to providing the highest quality care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. However, shifts in the national abortion funding landscape created new and significant challenges, causing them to need to delay appointments or offer substantial discounts, and some patients could not be seen due to the inability to pay.

Lavender Fund was founded in 2023, in the face of this new and ever-changing reality. As a non-profit organization, distinct and separate from DuPont Clinic, the Lavender Fund was created to ensure that every patient in Washington, DC seeking abortion later in pregnancy can receive the high-quality care they need. Every contribution to the Lavender Fund not only ensures patients get the care they need and deserve; it is an act of solidarity and a testament to our shared belief in the fundamental dignity and autonomy of every human being.
